Chief Minister Paul Henderson

The Territory economy has been given a big boost with work well underway on our share of the Australian Government’s $42 billion Second Stimulus Package.

The Territory Government’s fast-track plan to take advantage of this investment – Operation Stimulus – is working well.

In recent weeks I hosted a second stimulus package forum with business leaders to provide an update on the latest developments and also to get feedback about what has worked and what needs to be improved.

The overwhelming response has been positive and I’m glad to say Operation Stimulus has already:

  • Increased the number of Development Consent Authority meetings to once a fortnight in Darwin and Litchfield
  • Established Stimulus Action Squads – headed by the Co-ordinator General Alastair Shields
  • Made it easier for local companies to get projects
  • Increased procurement thresholds
  • Established an Industry Reference Group
  • Established a Developers One-Stop Shop

I will continue to support local businesses to make the most of these projects. This is all about Growing the Territory with fresh ideas and real results.

Paul Henderson
Chief Minister
